Segovia
wow what an amazing day. Today we visited Segovia one of the most unique cities that I have ever been to. There were many reasons The Aquaduct (the most well preserved Roman Aquaduct in the world), Meson de Candido (one of the oldest restaurants in Segovia dating back to 1786 and they cut pigs with plates) and the Alcazar of Segovia which in my opinion is the most impressive castle I have ever seen! all the best from Spain

Festa dei Ceri......
Today is an amazing day in a little town in the center of Italy, its called GUBBIO. Today is the 15th of May, on this day every year they celebrate one of the oldest festivals in Italy. The origins of the race have both religious and pagan roots. The religious beliefs stem from the community's love for their Bishop Ubaldo Baldassini paying tribute to his death in May 1160. The pagan festivals is honor Ceres the goddess of the harvest.Today, three Ceros (About four meters tall and weighing approximately 280 kilograms) are assembled out of elm, spruce and oak are erected to represent: Saint Ubaldo, (patron and protector of the city), for bricklayers. Saint Giorgio for merchants. Saint Antonio for peasants. In order to participate in the race, you must be a citizen of Gubbio. Although occupation would seem to dictate the loyalty to a Saint, the tradition to passed down through families from father to son as a right of passage and sense of family honor. The dress is also traditional yellow, blue or black shirts, white pants with red scarfs and belts. The festivities began at dawn's first light. The narrow streets become a sea of color as voices rise and the Ceros are moved through the town a total of approximately four kilometers and 300 meters. The men carrying the Ceros are supported on both sides and are to run at full speed through the four sections of the race. Finally ending at the Baslica of Sant'Ubaldo where the Saints are lowered into a portal and the celebration continues until late in the evening. I have been participating in this festival for the past 5 years but this year I couldn't make it to italy. Trust me I will be there next year and carry the ceri again. It almost broke my shoulder every time lol.... be safe! OH and go to events and watch the video we filmed it last year. What an experience!

China marks one year of Wenchuan quake
Today marks the one year anniversary of China's most horrific earthquakes. 69,000 people were killed in Wenchuan, China last year today when a massive (8.0-magnitude) deadly earthquake struck. Today Chinese President Hu Jintao attended a ceremony in the quake's epicenter Yingxiu Town, Wenchuan Country. The President expressed condolences to the victims and those who sacrificed there lives during and after the quake relief. The President thanks foreign diplomats who attended the ceremony for their contributions. I for one never heard about this earthquake. Im sure it was on world news but I must have missed it. Lets keep the victims and their families in our hearts.

May 7th?
Today is an important day for many different locations around the world. Throughout history many different things happened on May 7th. In Istanbul, Turkey in 558 which was "Constantinople" at the time had a catastrophic event Hagia Sophia's dome collapsed. Hagia Sophia was is the only place on earth that was a mosque and a church. Also in 1832 Greece received its independence by the treaty of london. I definitely didn't know either of these just did some research ;) Oh and also on May 7th, 1718 the city of New Orleans was founded. hope you enjoyed the facts have a good one!

Happy Cinco de Mayo!
The 5th of May, better referred to as "CINCO DE MAYO" is a day of lots of drinking lol... Most people think that today is Mexico's independence day, but its not! MEXICO'S INDEPENDENCE DAY IS September 16th. The reason why this is such an important day in Mexico's history is because its the day that the Mexican army defeated the French at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. Its actually not even a obligatory federal holiday, rather a holiday that is voluntarily. For everyone celebrating today be-careful and drink a tequila shot for me jajajajaja FELIZ CINCO DE MAYO!

Abu Dhabi & Etihad Airways
When most people hear about Dubai they don't even know in what country it is in, all they know is that they are building the tallest building on earth, artificial islands and are creating the new mega city. Dubai is located in the United Arab Emirates, and its not the capital; Abu Dhabi is the capital of the UAE and its also creating a global buzz. It is the second most populated city in the UAE, and it is also the seat of the government. Now what is Etihad Airways? Etihad airways is the national airline of the UAE, it commenced commercial flights in November of 2003. Of all the reviews that I have read they say that Etihad is a far better airline then the bigger player of the country Emirates. Etihad fly's to over 35 countries in 5 continents and are expanding rapidly. Next time you hear about Dubai remember thats not the capital of the United Arab Emirates its Abu Dhabi, and the main airline of the country is Etihad Airways. FLY ETIHAD!

KURDISTAN?
Today I was flipping through the latest issue of Forbes and I came across a section promoting KURDISTAN. Now I knew there wasn't an actual country called Kurdistan so I started reading the article. Turns out this is an area where the Kurds live and its made up of western Turkey, northern Iraq and eastern Iran. The article talks about how this is the upcoming vibrant business force in the Middle East. There's a lot of people that are investing a ton of money in this area and right now; Sounds pretty crazy especially right now during the recession. Here is a little bit of info about KURDISTAN: From a political standpoint, Iraqi Kurdistan is the only region which has gained official recognition internationally as an autonomous federal entity. Kurds in Iran are also officially recognized as a minority, although no Iranian territory is designated as ethnically Kurdish. Kurdistan is a mountainous region with a cold climate and it receives enough annual precipitation to sustain temperate forests and shrubs. Oh and if you want to check out the article online here it is http://www.forbes.com/2006/09/19/kurdistan-iraq-investing-biz_cx_jh_0920kurds.html CIAO!

Swine Flu GLOBAL EPIDEMIC!!!
At the moment Swine Flu has spread to 4 continents and its expected to kill Americans within the next few days. Over 100 people in Mexico have become victims to what officials are calling the fasts transfered Flu in history. Here are a little bit of facts about the flu. Swine flu is common in swine and rare in humans. People who work with swine, especially people with intense exposures, are at risk of catching swine influenza if the swine carry a strain able to infect humans. However, these strains rarely are able to pass from human to human. (At the moment it is being transfered from HUMAN TO HUMAN) The Swine Flu is a contagious respiratory disease that affects pigs. When the flu spreads person to person, instead of from animals to humans, it can continue to mutate, making it harder to treat or fight, because people have no natural immunity. (This is the situation at the moment) Everyone this is a serious issue. Be careful in the next coming days, if you get sick go straight to the hospital. Try not to come into contact with people that are traveling from Central America at this moment. Be safe and god speed! David
